About IAP-Partnership

Where it all began...

Whilst working together in local government we had an idea that one day we should set up our own business .

Having worked in the field of regeneration and economic development we gained extensive experience of developing and delivering both social and physical projects.   These were focused on supporting the retail sector across a range of towns and villages.

With the current focus from Central and Local Government to support our high streets, now is the time  for us to utilise our expertise and experience to support this important agenda.

At the start my career I worked for two national charities, the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs and then the Women’s Institute.  Although I could probably still judge a good dairy cow my jam making skills leave a lot to be desired.

In 2004 I moved to Local Government as a Project Officer delivering the Market Towns Initiative in rural north west County Durham.    It was here I developed my passion for working with retail businesses.  I was once told that working in regeneration you could be so creative and I enjoyed being able to seek the resources and develop projects focusing on the needs of the business communities.

Then in 2009 I started working for a unitary authority as a Principal Project Officer working with a team delivering regeneration and economic development priorities across a range of towns and villages.

During this time, I have witnessed the changes across our High Streets and the impact on our town centres and throughout this  time my passion for retail and my creativity has never left me.

I enjoy understanding and listening to what makes each town unique and how I can support businesses to make a positive change.

And before you ask….its tea with milk, no sugar.

My love of high streets and all those that occupy or visit them started when I secured SRB funding to develop and host a three year long children’s events programme, as part of Keighley Town Centre Management team, with my lasting claim to fame being a big yellow furry turret loving known as Cliff (based on Cliff Castle).

I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to move up North to take up a Town Centre Managers role at district level working across two towns in County Durham.  In 2009, and the formation of a unitary authority,  my role became a Management role with responsibility for a small team with a remit of developing and delivering a programme of capital projects across a number of town and village centres, and social projects to support new and existing retail businesses.   And for 2 years, a small team focussing on employability projects working with employers, clients and training providers.

My knowledge and skills were borne from ‘doing’, allowing me to lead with confidence.  I am a good connector and like to take a step back to understand the bigger picture to ensure a project positively contributes and adds value, whether it be installing a waste bin in the correct place or site assembly to accommodate national retailers.

I love having a cup of tea and natter with businesses, I think this is the best way to find out what is happening, and enables me to really understand local business needs or fears, and the odd time what is positive about an area.

I was a late bloomer when it came to accredited qualifications but once I secured my Masters, there was no stopping me.  I continually seek opportunities to further develop my skills and knowledge, but I really enjoy sharing what I know with others and putting it to good use.

If you think I could learn from you, or you would like to know more about me and IAP, please drop me a line or give me a call.
